Migration Wizard or Mailmig.exe is an extraordinary feature of MS Exchange Server. As the name depicts Migration Wizard allows user to migrate data from foreign messaging system or earlier version of Exchange to Exchange 2003. The wizard can be used in inter or intra organizational migration. If we talk about NSF to PST migration then also we can use this wizard. Once the Lotus Notes items are converted they can be saved either in PST or XLS format. But most of the times user is confronted with migration issues while using this utility.
Mailmig.exe is a command line utility and most of the time a user with non proficient technical background performs incorrect steps that arise an error. The user may face following event messages:
Event ID: 10053.
Event type: Error.
Event source: MS Exchange Mig.Description: You don't have permission required to complete the operation.
or
Event ID: 10008.
Event type: Warning.
Event source: MS Exchange Mig.
Description: Unnecessary Keyword “PostOffice”, found in control file. The keyword will be ignored. Unnecessary Keyword “Container”, found in control file. The keyword will be ignored. Unnecessary Keyword “NTAccounts”, found in control file. The keyword will be ignored. Unnecessary Keyword “Port”, found in control file. The keyword will be ignored. Unnecessary Keyword “Accounts”, found in control file. The keyword will be ignored.
Reason: The error occurs if user uses Mailmig.exe and if the NTAccounts parameter is set to “No” in control file.
Solution: To overcome this issue user can switch to GUI mode of the wizard instead of working on command line. By using GUI mode user can easily check on bulk migration of file, It also plays vital role in avoiding the occurrence of aforementioned error. However the simplest way to perform migration is by using third party NSF to PST converter tool.
