Synovel; an India based company developed Spicebird as a
Personal Information Manager, a step closer to Outlook, using Mozilla
Thunderbird’s source code. Spicebird is open source software and is available
for free. Spicebird supports Windows and Linux and combines all of Mozilla’s
productivity applications into one. This application is more or less an attempt
towards creating a Microsoft Outlook like package.
The interface is quite familiar and the beauty of Spicebird
lies in the fact that migrating calendars, tasks and RSS is pretty easy. The
first look gives a glimpse of the tasks at hand along with messages and feeds. It
would be fair to call Spicebird an integrated version of Thunderbird. The tabs
namely: Tasks, Contacts, Mail and Calendar have their own settings. Instant
Messaging supported by Spicebird is a chief reason for its liking.
Though Spicebird is no doubt amongst popular email clients
globally but further development and support for Spicebird is no longer
available. This happened as Mozilla Thunderbird added a ton of features and
applications that made Spicebird stand out from the rest. More so, Thunderbird
started a rapid evolution that Spicebird could no longer keep up.
Though Spicebird users are advised to migrate to Thunderbird
that provides a similar experience but it is not a prudent choice. Spicebird is
more towards Outlook and it is best for a Spicebird user to migrate to Outlook
and experience top notch features. Migration from Spicebird to Outlook is a tough job.
Outlook has the data file by the name of PST that stores
entire user information. Spicebird has MBOX file that Outlook does not support.
In order to migrate from Spicebird to Outlook, it is required to convert MBOX file to Outlook PST.
How to Convert MBOX
to PST?
Once the user decides to migrate to Outlook the question
arises how to convert MBOX files to PST.
Third party tools are available that can convert
MBOX files to Outlook importable PST. One such utility is “Stellar MBOX to PST Converter”.
The software has an interactive user interface and comes
with a detailed step by step user guide. This powerful MBOX to Outlook PST Converter tool not only supports Spicebird but
can convert MBOX/MBX files of various other email clients to Outlook PST,
namely: Thunderbird, Entourage, PocoMail, Eudora and Apple Mail. The user can
download the risk free demo version of the tool from the website and test the
product’s competency prior to purchase.
